Michael-SusmanSince starting to practice law in 1960, Michael has had wide experience in almost all aspects of commercial and corporate law, but is especially well versed in real estate development. His depth of experience with HUD-insured multi-family housing projects, shopping centers, office buildings and condominiums and co-ops has made him a leader in the field of real estate development. He has extensive experience drafting commercial leases, most recently drafting three (3) long term net leases for a major component of Yale New Haven Hospitals Smilow Cancer Center.

Michael drafted the documents for one of the first condominiums in Connecticut. He has been extensively involved in every aspect of real estate development and financing and has negotiated and drafted complex partnership and joint venture agreements, and has been actively involved in resolving disputes that arise from these relationships.

In the municipal law area, Michael successfully negotiated wastewater treatment plant privatization transactions for WPCA’s and has also represented a municipality in its successful downtown redevelopment negotiation with a national regional mall developer, and municipalities in other aspects of municipal development.

Michael prides himself on providing innovative, cost-effective and practical solutions to complex legal situations. Michael received his undergraduate and law degrees from the University of Connecticut, where he wrote for The Law Review. He has been listed in Best Lawyers in America for many years. Michael and his wife live in New Haven. They have three children.
