MICHAEL SUSMAN
Michael Susman, Principal
Real Estate Development, Corporate Law, Municipal
Law, Commercial Financing
Since starting to practice law in 1960, Michael has had wide experience
in almost all aspects of commercial and corporate law, but is
especially well versed in real estate development. He has probably
closed more HUD-insured multi-family housing projects than any
other lawyer in Connecticut. His depth of experience with shopping
centers, office buildings and condominiums and co-ops has made
him a leader in the field of real estate development.
Michael drafted the documents for one of the first condominiums
in Connecticut. He has been extensively involved in every aspect
of real estate development and financing and has negotiated and
drafted complex partnership and joint venture agreements, and
has been actively involved in resolving disputes that arise from
these relationships.
In the municipal law area, Michael successfully negotiated wastewater
treatment plant privatization transactions for WPCA's one of which
will result in a $52,000,000.00 savings over a fifteen (15) year
period. He has also represented a municipality in its successful
downtown redevelopment negotiation with a national regional mall
developer.
Michael prides himself on providing innovative, cost-effective
and practical solutions to complex legal situations. Michael received
his undergraduate and law degrees from the University of Connecticut,
where he wrote for The Law Review. He has been listed in Best
Lawyers in America for many years and has recently been recognized
by Connecticut Magazine as one of the best lawyers in Connecticut.
Michael and his wife live in New Haven. They have three children.
