JAMES J. PERITO
James J. Perito, Principal
Commercial Lending and Creditor’s Rights,
Real Estate Development, Environmental Law
James has been with Susman, Duffy & Segaloff, P.C. since 1985,
representing commercial lenders and borrowers in commercial transactions,
real estate development and leasing. His particular emphasis with
these clients has been Land Use Planning, including zoning, subdivision,
tidal and inland wetlands and traffic permitting before municipal,
state and federal agencies. He also advises clients facing environmental
issues stemming from contaminated real estate with particular
emphasis on cleanup, Transfer Act and UST compliance. In recent
years, James has developed considerable experience representing
commercial lenders, the FDIC and its servicers, prosecuting foreclosures,
collections and working out troubled loans.
James is admitted to the Connecticut, Florida and Mashantucket
Pequot Bars as well as the United States District Court for Connecticut
and the United States Supreme Court. Prior to his engagement here,
he served as a Judicial Law Clerk for the Connecticut Superior
Court. He currently serves on the Connecticut Bar Association’s
Planning and Zoning, Conservation and Environmental and Consumer
Law Sections as well as Professional Ethics Committee. Additionally,
he serves the New Haven Bar Association as Chairman of the Environmental
Law Section and is a member of the Connecticut Trial Lawyers Association.
James, his wife and children reside in Branford where he has served
on the Branford Inland Wetlands and Water Courses Commission and
Branford Town Center Residents Association.
He is currently a Director of the Branford Rotary and co-chair
of the Branford Land Trust Acquisition Committee. He is a graduate
of Lafayette College and the University of Connecticut School
of Law.
